Awards, Scholarships, and Recognition
The Center for Student Involvement is proud to present the 3rd Annual U-SU Student Involvement Scholarship, which aims to reward students who are active both on campus and in their communities. The winner of the Essay and Speech Competition shall receive an $800 scholarship that will be applied toward the recipient's 2011 spring quarter tuition. This year, there will also be a second place prize of $200, and additionally, Bookstore gift certificates will be awarded to the three (3) remaining finalists.
The winners shall be determined as follows:
- Students will write an essay answering BOTH of the following questions:
- "HOW HAS COMMUNITY SERVICE AFFECTED YOU AS A PERSON AND THE COMMUNITY THAT YOU HAVE HELPED?" and
- "WHY IS CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE MPORTANT TO A COLLEGE STUDENT IN GENERAL, AND TO YOU SPECIFICALLY?"
- Five (5) student essays will be chosen as finalists for the speech portion of the competition.
- Those five finalists will then present their essays as a speech to a panel of judges. The speech may include multimedia elements, such as a Power Point presentation, charts and graphs, or other visual or audio aids.
- The selected panel of judges will determine the winner based on their overall presentation.
Finalists will be notified of their status before the end of the calendar year (Dec. 2010). The speech portion of the competition will take place on January 18, 2011.
